I should state that I know what religion is, but I do not get how spirituality does not go hand in hand with religion. The two seem like compliments.
Please explain in detail.

I’m an atheist and I can still see the value and importance that religion/spirituality play in the world. And the many good things that come out of religion/spirituality.
This question isn’t just exclusive to Christianity, Islam, or Judaism; but rather any and all forms of religion/spirituality.

To me spirituality isn’t the same as religion AT ALL.

If one were to transcend the ego, then how can one do school work and get A’s? Thinking is part of the ego. Is it impossible to transcend the ego if one has an intellect? Does one have to have an ego in order to perform to his potential?
