How is it possible to reform the political system so that politicians will benefit from progress?

Political corruption is the biggest scourge of democracy. Politicians benefit from arguing and overemphasizing differences at times when they could agree on what they agree on, make the world a better place…and THEN argue til they turn deaf. Is there a way of making politicians benefit from agreeing with each other at times? Maybe the media needs reform? Maybe there needs to be a reform in voters’ attitudes? Maybe politicians need to be made more responsible for what they actually have done? But how?

It could start by giving people a test before allowing them to vote.

They have to have a working knowledge of current world events (not including hollywood stars’ marriages/divorces/adoptions), knowledge of the role the forefathers intended government to have, and a general knowledge of where government gets money to spend on social welfare programs.

I would bet at least half the voters in this country vote based on their heart and emotions, not their intellect and knowledge of the issues–and that hurts us all.
