Which philosopher said that “moral individuals will put their own ethical principles above the requirements of the law and above the social norms?”

    No, it wouldn’t have been Plato. (And Socrates actually never wrote anything, the only record we have of him and his thought comes from Plato’s dialogues, and a couple of descriptions from Xenophon.)

    Sounds more like Nietzsche or, going out on a limb, maybe Albert Camus. The focus on the individual’s principles is definitely from the modern period.
