You are going to take a sociology class. Sociology is the study of society, mainly, human society, the tendency in its development and what leads the society to be what it is.
If you like the sociology class, you might consider further study of sociobiology, the science at edge of sociology and biology. Sociobiology studies the influence of society on biological beings, like humans, and the influence of biological beings on the society.
In that case, I would recommend for you to read two books written by a famous sociobiologist, Desmond Morris: THE NAKED APE and THE HUMAN ZOO. These books were written many years ago, some of the views expressed there might be considered questionable. But as a whole, these books are wonderful and profoundly educational reading.
Stephany Cullen Said:
sociology is the study of that large unit outside of ourself called society. among the innumerable topics covered in a typical intro. to sociology are:
the family structure
crime and violence
class differentiation
drugs/alcoholaddiction
suicide
terrorism
urban vs. rural problems
poverty and affluence
the welfare system
peer pressure
cults
mass media
internet
anti-social behaviors
JUST TO NAME A FEW!
IT’S REALLY AN EXCITING, THOUGHT PROVOKING FIELD.
Martha Slaughter Said:
That Emile Durkheim, the father of American sociology and a French pseudo-intellectual, was a scientist. This will be the first of many ” fairy tales ” that you will hear in any sociology class. Take something else.
